International Overdose Awareness Day: Remember. Educate. Support.

Each year on August 31, communities around the world observe International Overdose Awareness Day to remember those who have lost their lives to overdose, support the families and friends they leave behind, and raise awareness about overdose prevention and recovery.

Overdose continues to impact individuals, families, and communities across the country. Behind every statistic is a person, and every life lost reminds us of the importance of reducing stigma and ensuring that treatment and recovery services are available to anyone who needs them.

At ACTS, we believe that substance use disorder is a treatable medical condition—not a moral failing. Seeking help is a sign of strength, and recovery is possible with the right support.

How You Can Help

  • Remember those whose lives have been lost to overdose and honor their memory.
  • Educate yourself and others about substance use disorder, overdose prevention, and the signs of an overdose.
  • Carry naloxone if it is available in your community and learn how to use it. This life-saving medication can reverse an opioid overdose when administered quickly.
  • Support recovery by encouraging compassion, reducing stigma, and connecting people to treatment and recovery resources.

ACTS provides a comprehensive continuum of care, including detoxification services, residential and outpatient treatment, medication-assisted treatment, recovery support, supportive housing, and our Mobile Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) program. Every day, our team works to help individuals build healthier lives and achieve lasting recovery.

This International Overdose Awareness Day, take a moment to remember those we have lost, stand with those who are grieving, and help spread the message that treatment works, recovery is possible, and no one has to face substance use alone.
