Celebrating Men’s Health Month
Breaking the Stigma and Building Support
June is Men’s Health Month, a time to raise awareness about the unique health challenges men face and to encourage early detection and treatment of disease – including mental health and substance use issues.
At ACTS, we recognize that mental health is health, and seeking help is a sign of strength- not weakness. Yet too often, men delay or avoid seeking the care they need. Whether due to stigma, fear of judgment, or cultural expectations around masculinity, many men suffer in silence. We want to change that.
The Facts:
- Men are less likely than women to seek help for depression, anxiety, or addiction.
- Suicide rates are significantly higher among men, especially those aged 45–64.
- Substance use disorders often go untreated in men, despite being highly treatable with the right support.
ACTS Is Here for You
We offer compassionate, confidential, and evidence-based services tailored to meet people where they are. From detox and recovery programs to outpatient therapy, supportive housing, and peer support, our programs help men heal, rebuild, and thrive.
Whether you’re reaching out for the first time or looking to continue your recovery journey, you are not alone.
Real Support. Real Stories.
Many of the men we serve come to ACTS at a turning point in their lives. With the right tools and a strong support network, they’ve gone on to achieve stability, reconnect with loved ones, and build new futures. Their strength lies not in avoiding struggle, but in facing it head-on—with help.
This June, Let’s Talk About It
- Talk to a friend, a brother, a partner, or a coworker.
- Reach out to a professional if you’re struggling.
- Let’s normalize these conversations and create a culture where men feel safe to speak up and seek support.
Need help or know someone who does? Call us at 813.246.4899 or visit www.actsfl.org to learn more about our programs.
Because taking care of your mental health is one of the strongest things you can do.
PTSD Awareness Month
Healing Is Possible
June is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Month, a time to increase understanding, reduce stigma, and remind those who are struggling that they are not alone—and help is available.
At ACTS, we see firsthand the impact that trauma can have on individuals and families. Whether from combat, abuse, accidents, loss, or other life-altering events, trauma can leave deep emotional scars. PTSD is a natural response to experiencing or witnessing something terrifying—but it doesn’t have to define a person’s future.
What Is PTSD?
PTSD is a mental health condition triggered by experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. Common symptoms include:
- Intrusive memories or flashbacks
- Nightmares and sleep disturbances
- Anxiety or hypervigilance
- Avoidance of reminders of the trauma
- Feeling emotionally numb or disconnected
It can affect anyone – regardless of age, gender, or background.
The Link Between PTSD, Mental Health, and Substance Use
Many people with PTSD also struggle with depression, anxiety, or substance use as a way to cope with overwhelming emotions. At ACTS, we understand how intertwined these challenges can be. Our integrated approach to treatment means we focus on the whole person—offering trauma-informed care that respects the past while building hope for the future.
How ACTS Helps
ACTS offers a range of services designed to support individuals living with PTSD:
- Outpatient therapy with licensed clinicians
- Residential and detox services for those managing both trauma and addiction
- Supportive housing programs that provide stability and safety
- Peer support and group counseling
Our staff is committed to providing a compassionate, judgment-free environment where healing can begin.
You Are Not Alone
One of the biggest barriers to treatment is silence. This June, we encourage everyone to:
- Learn the signs of PTSD (link to: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) – Symptoms and causes – Mayo Clinic_
- Speak openly about the impact of trauma
- Reach out to someone who may be struggling
- Seek help—because recovery is possible
If you or someone you love is experiencing PTSD, ACTS is here to help. Call us 813.246.4899 or visit www.actsfl.org to learn more about our services.
Together, we can break the silence and support the path to healing.
